Project Title: La Akito Perla

Design Statement

I have been approached by Sophie Bonheur, a 26-year-old Australia female, to design a collection of evening gowns. From this collection she will choice one design for her debut as the new Bachelorette on the first episode of the 2021 season, and then to later auction the gown to raise funds for the Australian Bush Fire Appeal.

Sophie has asked that the collection takes predominant inspiration from roses following Christian Dior’s 1950s design process. The rose flower is a main symbol in the show to reflect new beginnings and true love, that my client is searching for. This has inspired the handmade flower embellishments flowing across the gown, and the red to white colour scheme.

“La Akito Perla” is an elegant evening gown covered in shimmering sparkles, suited to my client’s dramatic TV flair. This classic design is complemented by a versatile rich red satin overskirt which can be worn in multiple ways across the course of the night, and in the future. The innovative garment takes inspiration from modern red-carpet fashion trends showcased by Ralph & Russo.
