Project Title: Everything the Light Touches
I have designed and created a custom-made garment titled: ‘Everything the Light Touches’, based on the iconic Disney film, The Lion King. As a part of my growing design brand, I have decided host a runway show in Paris, to market my brand and promote multiculturalism and inclusivity in the design community. Funds raised from this event will be donated to the education and medical care of women and girls in third world African countries, our chosen cause.
As the designer I wanted to have a balance of wearability, African culture and runway style intensity. The classic dress silhouette, which can be worn alone, is embellished with two sets of strips cleanly attached to the dress, representing the slash marks made by a lion’s claws. The simplicity of the dress contrasts to the large embellished lion headpiece, the main attraction.
The photographer from Vogue will capture and showcase this piece on the front cover of the September issue of Vogue magazine, to kick start both my fashion label and the career of the young African model wearing the piece on the runway.
